Knowing where to start or even knowing how to start can seem overwhelming. Nutrition Services can help create a sustainable approach that fits your needs for today and in the future. Our team of Registered Dietitians is dedicated to helping you improve your health through evidence-based nutrition education and counseling.

Programs and classes

Programs and classes

We provide nutrition counseling services in individual and group settings in our medical offices and virtually, through telephone and video appointments or web-based classes. Our classes include the following:

Weight loss classes

  • Nutrition boot camp: This 4-week class provides guidance, meal plans, and support to jump start your weight loss and exercise. The program is very structured and requires attendance of all four sessions. Participation requires weekly reporting of weight and physical activity.

Heart health

  • Mediterranean diet class: The Mediterranean diet has been shown to help manage cardiovascular risk and inflammation that occurs with many conditions. This one hour live virtual class is lead by a registered dietitian. Make a difference to your health and find out about resources that can help you.

Prediabetes

  • Healthy connections class: This is a CDC (Center for Disease Control) accredited program for diabetes prevention and weight loss. Each class series meets weekly (virtually) for 16 weeks consecutive weeks. Upon completion monthly support groups are recommended to continue with the progress.

Diabetes

  • Learn to take charge class: Featuring two virtual 60 minute sessions. You will learn about daily self-care, managing blood sugar and making wise food choices.

Health coaching by phone:
Our coaches are health educators with expertise in preventive health care and behavior-change counseling. They don’t tell you what to do – they use your goals to create a customized action plan and help you discover techniques that work for you. Wellness coaching can help you:

  • Achieve a healthy weight
  • Become more active
  • Reduce stress
  • Eat healthier

Schedule a 1:1 phone or video appointment with a registered dietitian. You may schedule this appointment online by logging into kp.org, select Appointments, then Schedule appointment, then select Nutrition Services/Dietitian. Dates and time listed are for the first available telephone or video appointment. Please not location is not an issue as these are all virtual appointments. When healthy lifestyle isn’t enough to help with weight loss efforts. Medications and surgery can be tools that can be effective.

Kaiser Permanente has programs and resources to help you reach your goals and understand that that changing your habits to achieve a healthier lifestyle takes focus and a good support system.

Here are some resources to help you get started. You will find strategies and information to help you develop your own plan and learn about strategies to improve your health.

If you thrive in a group along with others working on similar goals we offer Kaiser Permanente members a variety of workshops online to support you. For one-on-one support, you can choose to work with a wellness coach on the phone to set goals for healthy, lasting change.

Medications to assist with weight loss need to be prescribed by a licensed provider such as your primary care physician. Please note that medications cannot be prescribed by a registered dietitian.

Bariatric surgery is surgery to help you to lose weight. This type of surgery is only used for people who are very overweight and have not been able to lose weigh with diet and exercise. Learn more by clicking the links below:

Binge eating is an eating disorder. People who have it eat large amounts of food ina short time. They binge eat regularly for several months. They may feel out of control and eat until they are painfully full.

Healthy eating is about finding balance of foods that are nutritious and delicious for you and your family.

Healthy eating starts with choosing foods that are natural and don’t include many added ingredients. It also means finding a balance of eating some of your favorite foods that may not be considered nutritious! Healthy eating is about finding balance for your and your family.

Meal planning can be a key part of healthy eating. Planning meals and snacks that are balanced and nourishing will help you feel better and work toward achieving health goals.

Plant based eating is eating a variety of foods grown from plants including fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, grains and seeds. It can help you limit the amount of animal-based products you eat and can be a healthy approach to eating

Nutrients are substances in food that provide energy or that help your body work as it should. Nutrients are used to build and repair body tissues. Macronutrients are the main sources of energy (calories) found in the foods you eat.

These support overall health, disease prevention and wellbeing.

Prediabetes is a warning sign that you’re at risk for getting type 2 diabetes. It means that your blood sugar is higher than it should be. But it’s not high enough to be diabetes. For some people eating habits and sedentary lifestyle can increase the risk of diabetes.
